Cover Letter For a Resume - Writing a Good One
Cover Letter For a Resume - Writing a Good OneA cover letter for a resume is a vital component in writing a resume. A good cover letter should include elements that will make your resume stand out from the crowd. Also, it needs to tell the hiring manager about yourself and your skills. If you aren't sure how to write a good cover letter, you can hire a cover letter service to assist you with this part of the job application process. The first thing to do is look at your resume. Make sure that it includes all of the important information that is required for the position you are applying for. Remember, you are using your resume as a first impression of who you are. You don't want to send a resume with something missing or incorrect.Next, use the same tone that you would use when you write your resume. Give off a friendly and professional appearance. Do not mention things that are embarrassing such as your past criminal record or the fact that you used to smoke cigarettes. You need to al so highlight your strong skill and experience. This will show that you have the relevant experience for the position. This will also show that you are professional and thorough in your ability to complete tasks and deliver results.Ensure that your letter includes an introduction paragraph. In this paragraph, tell about yourself and what you can do for the company. Address the interviewer and provide any relevant work references or certifications. It is important to always give personal information, especially if it is listed on your resume. After you finish your resume, don't waste time writing the final paragraph. Use a bullet point format to list the most important aspects of your accomplishments and skills. These should be written in bold, because you will use these in the follow up section of your letter. The last paragraph of your letter will be where you add any notes and provide any other information. When you write a cover letter for a resume, remember that you want to be prof essional. Don't try to impress the interviewers with something that isn't your best quality, and instead focus on using a professional voice and attitude.Look through your resume to see if you can find anything that needs added or taken out. Some employers will call you directly and ask for more information. Try to avoid adding any additional information at this time, as it could get lost in the shuffle and lead to a delay in the interview. Just keep the letter clean and well organized.

Sales Strategies for Managing Your Career - Career Pivot
Sales Strategies for Managing Your Career - Career Pivot Did you just say Sales Strategies to manage my career? Yes, you need sales strategies where your career is concerned. I am going to make the assumption that you are not a sales person. So, I am going to start with some basics. There are basicallytwo types of sales persons. Hunter Farmer Hunter The hunter is the one who goes out and does the research of who will buy your product (in this case it is you.) Once the target is identified, the hunter will find prospective leads, make the pitch, negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions and finally close the deal. They then move on to the next deal. Hunters are a rare breed. Good ones make a lot of money! Their sales strategies involve locating the prey, taking aim and capturing the deal. Here is the kicker. This is how we have traditionally looked for jobs. For More:Target the Company and Quit Chasing the Job Hunter Career Sales Strategies We scour the job boards and ask around about who is hiring. Next step is to identify an open position and submit our application or resume. Listen to the most recent episode We go into sales mode when we get the phone interview and then move through the interview process. We get the offer, and negotiate salary and benefits, and close the deal by signing the offer letter. Do you enjoy this?My guess is NO! The problem is this is weuse this strategy when we have been let go or when we are unhappy in our current position. In both of these circumstances, we want to close the deal as fast as we can. Very often the deal we will close will be suboptimal because we either need to get a job or want out of our current position. For More:The Negotiator Job Search â" An Introduction Farmer Farmers are often referred to as account managers. They have an existing customer that they get to know well and cultivate the relationship with the customer. They are there to help the customer solve their problemsand sell over and over again. There is a lot of repeat business. The idea is the customer knows who to turn to when they have an issue ⦠You! The farmerâs salesâ strategies revolve around relationships and trust. Farmers tend not to make as much money, but it is far less stressful. Most baby boomers were taught that once you were hired you were loyal to your employer until you retired. Boy those days are gone! For More: Introverted Sales Guy Job Search â" Case Study Farmer Career Sales Strategies Look at the image at the beginning of the post. We will start out like a hunter. We will want to identify the potential audience. Who can hire you? Think of yourself like a consultant. You solve problems for your employer. You clearly identify those problems that you know how to solve. Your next step is to find the employers that have those problems. These are the companies that are capable of hiring you. That is when we put on our farmerâs hat. We will want to carefully cultivate key relationships with management from those employers. This might be through networking meetings, asking for introductions or through social media like LinkedIn, Facebook, or Twitter. We will want to understand their problems and issues. We will want them to know that we are capable of solving those problems and issues. When they are ready to buy (make a hiring decision), they will come to you. Why will they come to you? They know and trust you! For More:Why Are You Not Being Found? Try Thinking Like a Recruiter Timing The big difference between these two sales strategies is timing. As a hunter, you can move as slow or fast as you want. Well ⦠when you are employed and acting like a hunter timing is not an issue. If you are unemployed you will want to go as fast as you can go. Time is money. The other issue is that this is hard work! As a farmer, you are building the relationships and playing a waiting game. You have little to no control over the timing, but it is a lot less work. You are always cultivating your network and building relationships. Your career is no longer a certainty. If you think you are safe in your current position, I suggest you read my post on how automation and robots will disrupt your career. Which of these sales strategies are you currently using? Which of these sales strategies will you use in the future? Marc Miller Like what you just read? Share it with your friends using the buttons above. Like What You Read? Get Career Pivot Insights! What Successful People Do - Jane Jackson Career
What Successful People Do - Jane Jackson Career What do successful people do to advance in their careers? As a career coach, I love to observe people. I watch and learn how many career professionals act, and see what they do, when progressing in their careers. I also watch how they act and react when going through a career transition.Iâve noticed there are some common activities that propel them towards success and these observations will help you to achieve your goals (and these activities inspire me too!)They are Early RisersWe feel confident and powerful when we have a sense of control and the feeling of accomplishment. Getting up early helps us to feel both.By waking up early you gain a sense of control that you might not enjoy if you woke up later. How many times have you said that you wished you had time to exercise, to meditate, to read, to stretch, to breathe, to say your morning affirmations? If you get up early, youâll have time to do all this and more! That feeling of accomplishment when youâve had a power walk, or y ouâve had a good stretch, or you started the day on a healthy note is worth waking up early for.Sleeping in is easier â" hitting the snooze button several times is tempting â" but it doesnât prepare you well for the day ahead. If you want to get stuff done, get up early and GET IT DONE! A positive morning routine is a good thing.Regularly getting up early, making it a habit, will change your mindset, the effectiveness of your morning routine and your productivity. Start your day on a positive note, get good things done early and youâll set yourself up for a great day. They Plan their Days in AdvanceIf you plan for tomorrow, tonight, you will have your roadmap to career success. If you donât have a plan when you go on a trip, how on earth will you know where youâre going? Itâs the same when it comes to your business or workday. All you need are small, efficient action steps that, as you accomplish each, serve to bring you closer and closer to your goal. Know what you goal is in order to plan effectively. If you donât know where youâre going, or you donât care, then it wonât matter what you do. But if you want to get SOMEWHERE, then a plan will get you there faster!Plan your day the night before and when you wake up youâll know exactly what your priorities are for the day. They Cut Out Whats Not ImportantDonât set multiple goals for each day that overwhelm you. I can guarantee that you wonât do any of them! There are probably 100 different things that you need to do. But creating a massive 100-item to-do list will overwhelm you and leave you feeling defeated.Successful people keep it simple and focus on the one or two things that will move them closer to their desired outcome at work, in their business or career. For successful long-term planning, create variable time-frame goals; yearly, quarterly, monthly, weekly and daily. Your DAILY goals are the most important because those daily actions will help you hit your monthly, quarterly and y early goals. Without the daily goals, nothing else gets done â" wouldnât you agree?Whatever you goal is, keep it simple and do less to achieve it. Ignore the noise and distractions and most importantly get past the mindless activities that arent helping you reach your destination. You know what they are ⦠social media, certain emails, and people knocking on your door for things THEY want done. Focus on whatâs important to you and get that done every single day. Steven Coveyâs First Things First is an excellent book â" he recommends that we spend our time on the IMPORTANT and NON-URGENT in order to reduce stressful situations and to get stuff done! They Do MORE of Whats ImportantWhat do I mean? Successful people do less when it comes to mindless activities, but always do more than their competition. Your competition may be a colleague, a competitor, or even your self. Ensure you are better today than you were yesterday.Learn more. Create new solutions. Fix a problem. Create a strategy. Implement your strategy. Become the best. Go above and beyond. Do more.To get to where you want in your career, your business and your life, you must do more. If you want a promotion, work for it! If you want something, work towards it. Be smart and identify what needs to be done to get to where you want to be.They Focus Focus FocusDo you know what you really want? And do you know WHY you want it?Before you take action, give yourself time for self-exploration. What is it that you really want? Do you want a raise? Why? If so, how much? Do you want a promotion? Why do you want the promotion? Do you want more responsibility? Do you want more money? Do you want to become a leader? Do you want to grow you team? Do you want a new job title? Do you want recognition? What is the REAL reason you want this?Be specific when it comes to your end goal. If this is something youre willing to work on every day it needs to be clear and to the point. It must be specific enough that you ca n actually feel what it would be like to reach it.Many people fall by the wayside because they donât really have a strong enough DESIRE for success. Or are not willing to put in the WORK to achieve success. If you stay focused on your end goal, you will stay on track to accomplish the one or two things that will propel you towards your destination. Rome wasnât built in a day, as they say.Follow these 5 steps that successful people do to advance their careers with dedication and desire, and you will be successful.Of course there will be distractions and if you find yourself veering away from your goal, acknowledge this has happened and steer yourself back on the path towards success.Id love to hear what you do that works leave a comment and share your experiences.I canât wait to hear how you go. Believe in yourself, and go and create career MAGIC!

How to Write a Cover Letter For Your Resume
How to Write a Cover Letter For Your ResumeWriting a cover letter for your resume is one of the most important steps you need to take when writing a professional cover letter. It can do more for your resume than any other element of your resume. In fact, a well written cover letter can even make or break you for that particular job. When applying for an interview, many job hunters will not get past the first paragraph because they are too nervous. This is because they are so afraid that someone is going to reject them. The truth is you can avoid this with a well written and well presented resume. The first paragraph on your resume is often the first thing the hiring manager will look at when he looks at your resume. So, how can you write a good cover letter that will keep them from rejection? Well, first of all, write to the point. If you are over giving your cover letter too much, then it is likely that you will end up with a little too much to say. What you want to do is just be as c oncise as possible without losing the reader's attention. If you are still hesitant about writing a cover letter, try and make it as professional as possible by taking some time to research your job requirements and personality. All you need to do is take a few minutes to do a bit of research. You can start by simply doing a search in Google on your job title, how many years you have been there, the company where you have worked, the titles of the people who may be interviewing you and what your qualifications are. You can also check out whether or not you have any certifications in this field. The last thing you want to do is come across as being so silly that no one will hire you. After you have done some research, try to write a cover letter that makes you stand out. In this way, you can attract the interest of the hiring manager. Make sure that you choose a friendly sounding name and a professional sounding resume. Your resume must not contain any spelling or grammatical errors. I f you do, you will surely not get a chance to speak to anyone. Plus, you may even lose the application altogether. One other tip that is very useful when writing a cover letter is to simply stay away from flashy fonts. They do not make a good impression. Instead, you should use simple and friendly font like Arial or Times New Roman to make your letter more appealing.Having a well-written resume can mean the difference between getting the job and not getting it. Your resume is your first impression, so try and write a cover letter that will leave your prospective employer feeling like you deserve the job. That is the ultimate goal of any cover letter; make them realize you are the best candidate.

6 Ways to Cash in on Your College Alumni Connections
6 Ways to Cash in on Your College Alumni Connections The website Payscale has released its 2016 College ROI report, and judging from the list, I wish I went to school for the sciences (Caltech, MIT, and Harvey Mudd took the top three spots) or in California (three of the top six). But even if your school doesnât rank high on the list, you can still use your alma mater to benefit your career. And thatâs true no matter how long ago you graduated. Here are six opportunities to take advantage of: 1. Alumni career services Itâs not just current students who are dropping by the career services offices of many colleges these days. Some schools offer their alumni one-on-one and group coaching sessions, live workshops, webinars, a job resource library, or access to specially curated job postings. 2. Directory of contacts Schools collect data on their alumni, and some publish a directory or provide graduatesâ contact information online. If youâre trying to get the inside scoop on companies, a possible new career, or trends in an industry, networking with your fellow alums can be a great resource. Even if it doesnât publish an official list, you can probably find informal alumni groups for your college on social media. 3. Networking events Your college may also host periodic networking events. These can include social mixers at the university club or back on campus, workshops or conferences on specific subjects, or online events on chat platforms like Brazen Careerist or Twitter. Participating will give you a chance to meet people, learn something new, and practice your own networking skills (like the ever-important elevator pitch). Related: 8 Things College Students Should Do Now That Will Pay Off Big Later 4. Affinity groups Specialized alumni groups dedicated to certain majors or common interests may host their own events, maintain an even more targeted social media group, or share job leads. Check to see if your major or concentration has its own offerings for alumni. Donât forget Greek life, athletics, or other extracurricular activities, if you were once active in them. That will give you some extra leadership experience, which is especially valuable if your current day job doesnât include any management responsibility. You can also be a thought leader: Guest lecture at a class, appear on a panel at the annual reunion, write something for the alumni newsletter, or mentor a student. 6. Skills building Some colleges allow alumni to audit classes for free or at a low cost, which can be a convenient way to learn a new subject or pick up a new skill. Volunteering to fundraise for your college enhances your sales skills and builds your resilience. You can use your alma mater to develop and hone skills that you donât get to apply in your day-to-day work. In short, the return on your college investment shouldnât stop with the first job you land after graduation. Do it right, and you can profit from your connection to your alma mater years after you collect your diploma and head out into the world.
